Sharjah 24 – Reuters: A Canadian-bred falcon fetched $346,000 at the International Falcon Breeders Auction in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, marking the highest sale of this year's event and the second-highest price in the annual auction's history.

The juvenile three-quarter gyr super white falcon, bred by the Jim Wilson farm in Ontario, Canada, was sold on the seventh night of the auction. The event is organized by the National Center for Falcons at its headquarters in Malham, located about 65 kilometers north of Riyadh.

Bidding for the bird opened at 200,000 Saudi riyals ($53,000) before escalating to the final sale price of 1.3 million riyals ($346,000). Birds sold at the auction gain automatic qualification for popular falcon races in Saudi Arabia, which feature a total prize pool of roughly $12.5 million for the racing season.

The record for the highest price ever paid at the international auction remains set at 1.75 million riyals ($467,000), a figure reached in 2021 for a juvenile ultra-white three-quarter pure gyr falcon. The current auction runs through August 25.
