The attacks transpired after Hamas announced its acceptance of the latest phase of a US-backed proposal—promoted by President Donald Trump—which outlines terms for surrendering weapons and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. While Israel has not yet formally responded to the plan, an anonymous Israeli political source indicated that any withdrawal is strictly contingent upon Hamas fully disarming.
Residential areas targeted across Gaza
Gaza’s civil defence agency stated that overnight bombardments targeting multiple residential structures claimed eight lives, while five additional people were killed in subsequent attacks on Sunday.
Among the casualties were a husband and wife killed by a helicopter strike on a central Gaza apartment, an elderly man and a child struck west of Gaza City, and three individuals, including a child, killed near Khan Younis.
Local authorities also documented fatalities resulting from drone strikes in the Jabalia refugee camp and Deir al-Balah, which included a pregnant woman and two brothers killed in separate incidents.
Earlier strikes hit medical facilities
Gaza officials noted that prior Israeli strikes on Saturday killed eight people and caused damage to vital medical supplies at a local hospital. In response, the Israeli military asserted that two of those weekend strikes were specifically directed at members of armed militant groups.
