During his time at St James' Park, the 48-year-old manager achieved historic milestones for the club, including guiding Newcastle to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years with a League Cup victory in 2025, alongside leading the team into the UEFA Champions League in both 2023 and 2025.

Reflecting on his departure, Howe said in a statement, "After nearly five years of giving my life, heart and soul into the club with unrelenting energy, I feel that it is in the best interests of both myself and the club to step away, recharge and take a break."
