According to Swat Deputy Inspector General of Police Fida Hussain, the assailant attempted to breach the police station at a heavily trafficked intersection but was intercepted by alert officers just before detonating their explosives.
Dozens injured in blast
Authorities confirmed that 22 individuals sustained injuries in the explosion, while an additional body—believed to belong to the suicide bomber—was recovered from the scene and transferred to a local hospital.
The blast ripped through the area during a civil society protest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an region where security forces continue to counter an escalating militant insurgency.
Security concerns persist
While no organisation immediately stepped forward to claim responsibility for the Swat bombing, the region has long been a hotspot for violence tied to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In a separate security incident on the same day, a roadside bomb detonated in the provincial capital of Peshawar, wounding four police officers—an attack for which the TTP claimed responsibility. Pakistani officials note that ongoing militant violence has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and security personnel over the course of the year.
