Sharjah 24 – AFP: Ten people were killed and more than 30 others wounded on Saturday following a wave of Russian attacks targeting Kyiv and its surrounding regions. Concurrently, Ukraine launched a drone strike that successfully sank a Russian-owned cargo ship in the Black Sea.

Kyiv hit by heavy strikes

The heavy bombardment inflicted damage across multiple districts in the Ukrainian capital, impacting residential buildings and the Embassy of Lithuania. While Ukrainian officials stated that civilian infrastructure was the primary target, Moscow maintained that the strikes hit military and logistics installations.

Ukraine targets Russian vessel

In the Black Sea, a Ukrainian drone strike sank the Russian-flagged container ship Yanina near Novorossiysk. All 17 crew members were safely rescued, though the ship's owner reported that the vessel was transporting civilian goods.

Kyiv seeks more air defence

In response to the escalating assault, President Volodymyr Zelensky renewed his urgent appeals for additional Patriot air defence systems. He stressed that enhanced protection against incoming missile attacks is critical as Russia intensifies its long-range offensive.
