Sharjah 24 – WAM: The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has approved Jascayd® (nerandomilast), a new treatment for adults with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis (PPF), expanding access to innovative therapies and supporting advances in healthcare.

How the treatment works

Jascayd® works by selectively inhibiting phosphodiesterase-4B (PDE4B), helping to slow the decline in lung function among patients with IPF and PPF.

Scientific and regulatory review

The approval followed a comprehensive scientific and regulatory review by the EDE, which assessed the medicine’s quality, safety, efficacy and supporting clinical evidence.

Clinical trial results showed the treatment’s effectiveness in reducing the rate of lung function decline in patients with these chronic respiratory conditions.

UAE among first countries to approve treatment

With the approval, the UAE becomes the first country in the region and the third globally, after the United States and China, to authorise the treatment. The milestone highlights the strength of the UAE’s regulatory framework and its ability to accelerate access to pharmaceutical innovations in line with international standards.

Importance of early diagnosis and follow-up

The EDE also underscored the importance of early diagnosis and regular monitoring of chronic lung diseases to support timely treatment, improve patient outcomes and enhance quality of life.
