Sharjah24 - WAM: As health authorities continue efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, on Thursday evening, to discuss the latest development on the Embola.
Ghebreyesus is scheduled to travel on Friday to Ituri province in northeastern DRC, the epicentre of the outbreak.

According to the WHO's latest figures through May 24, more than 1,000 confirmed and suspected Ebola cases have been reported since the outbreak was declared on May 15. The outbreak has resulted in 10 confirmed deaths and 223 suspected fatalities.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Tedros expressed confidence that the outbreak could be brought under control.

"That thing can be stopped," he said, while reiterating that the WHO does not support travel bans as a means of combating the outbreak, arguing that such measures "don't help much."

"Together, we will overcome this outbreak," Tedros added, pledging to do "everything in my power to help you."
