Sharjah 24 – WAM: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC),said hope, peace, and justice cannot be preserved through rhetoric alone, but require firm action against threats to state sovereignty and stability, speaking at the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul.

Iran’s actions described as destabilising regional security

He said the UAE and Gulf states face a repeated pattern of Iranian aggression, directly and through proxies, warning that such actions undermine regional stability and risk turning international waterways into tools of pressure and coercion.

Attacks on civilian infrastructure and global trade routes

Ghobash said recent actions have targeted civilian facilities including ports, airports, energy infrastructure, and food security centres, while also disrupting navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy and trade.

Call for international accountability and legal enforcement

He stressed that such behaviour threatens the international order and called for stronger accountability mechanisms to protect maritime corridors and ensure compliance with international law.

Call for condemnation and protection of maritime corridors

The FNC Speaker urged member parliaments to condemn attacks on several regional states and reject any justification for targeting civilian infrastructure or disrupting freedom of navigation.

Final call for peace based on justice and sovereignty

He concluded that lasting peace requires political will, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law, stressing that stability can only be achieved through fairness and responsibility.
