Sharjah 24: Young art enthusiasts at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025) explored the joy of bringing classic paintings to life during the Living Art workshop, where Claude Monet’s Water Lilies met children’s imagination.

Workshop brings art to life

Led by artist and film production expert Sarah Mizhar, participants studied Monet’s iconic work before receiving black-and-white sketches to reinterpret in colour. Using crayons, coloured pencils, and pink fabric flowers, the children recreated the artwork in 3D, blending creativity with tactile realism.

Learning through creativity

“The children are turning Monet’s Lilies into 3D art. Through this workshop they learn about the painter and his technique,” Mizhar explained. Each day focuses on a different artist, from Van Gogh and Vermeer to Frida Kahlo, allowing children to recreate key details with materials like textured paper, thread, and fabric.

Part of SIBF’s cultural programme

The Living Art series is part of SIBF’s 12-day cultural and creative programme, themed Between You and a Book. Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), the fair features over 300 cultural events, 158 guests, more than 750 workshops in Arabic and English, and 85 live performances from 12 countries.
