The MoU was signed by Dr Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice-Chancellor for Community Affairs at UOS, and Maryam Salem Al Salman, Chairperson of the Association, in the presence of Professor Qutaiba Hamid, Vice-Chancellor for Medical and Health Sciences Colleges, along with several faculty members and representatives.
Through this partnership, both entities will develop joint programmes to improve elderly care, enhance staff capabilities, and promote research and innovation in geriatric health. The initiative underscores UOS’s ongoing commitment to integrating academic excellence with social responsibility through practical, community-based collaborations.
Under the agreement, UOS and the Emirates Friends of Senior Citizens Association will collaborate to develop training programmes, seminars, and conferences focused on healthy ageing and elderly care. The partnership will also offer professional development for healthcare and support staff working with senior citizens, improving their skills and qualifications to address increasing community needs.
The two parties will share expertise, scientific knowledge, and modern technologies to promote healthcare innovation. Furthermore, they will support joint clinical and research initiatives to enhance health outcomes and quality of life for the elderly across the UAE.
During the signing ceremony, both sides underscored that the agreement aligns with the University of Sharjah’s mission to serve society through the application of knowledge and active partnerships. By integrating academic expertise with social outreach, the collaboration is expected to set a new benchmark for community-oriented education and healthcare initiatives.
The MoU will enable UOS to leverage its resources—including mobile healthcare clinics, the University Dental Hospital, and other health-focused programs—to deliver innovative solutions and preventive care for senior citizens.
Both institutions agreed to form a joint committee to oversee the implementation of the MoU and ensure effective coordination. The committee will follow up on shared projects and initiatives, evaluate outcomes, and identify new opportunities for cooperation in public health and elderly welfare.
This collaboration underscores UOS’s leadership in community engagement. It supports Sharjah’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of services and healthcare programs available to senior citizens across the emirate and the nation.
