Sharjah holds 1st World Stage Design in Middle East

In an interview with “Sharjah 24,” George stated that WSD is a prominent international exhibition that takes place every four years in a different section of the world to recognise excellence in performance design. She emphasised that the 2025 edition, which will be held in Sharjah from October 18 to 25, will be the event's first in the Middle East.

She stated that the event received over 1000 design submissions from professional performance designers worldwide, from which a jury of 16 experts selected 100 finalists whose works will be displayed. The closing ceremony will commemorate the accomplishments and innovative activities showcased throughout the programme.

George explained that WSD 2025 consists of four major components: the professional exhibition; the Theatre Architecture Competition, which is held at Bait Obaid Al Shamsi with the support of the Sharjah Art Foundation; the Technical Invention Prize, which is held at the Technology Innovation Research Park in University City; and Scenofest, a vibrant festival that includes workshops, talks, masterclasses, and performances from all over the world.

She underlined that the event offers a global forum for cooperation and innovation in performance design, bringing together artists, educators, and practitioners to share ideas and celebrate creative brilliance.
