The evening’s programme featured two short theatrical productions, attended by Ahmed Burhima, Director of the Theatre Department at the Department of Culture, and the Festival Director.
Mohammed Al Obaidli directed the premiere performance of "A Doll's Tale", a play by Aziz Nesin adapted from his play "Gigo" about a lonely man who finds solace in his doll. Unexpectedly, the doll starts speaking up, refusing to be controlled, and compelling him to face his isolation and seek change, which dramatically changes his life. The directors' text selection, the players' acting, and the lighting design were all lauded in the critical discussion that followed the performance.
Directed by Faisal Mousa, the second performance was "Without Certainty", a piece adapted from "The Father" by August Strindberg. It centred on a husband and wife's heated power struggle. Starting with an argument over their daughter's schooling, the tension builds as the wife sows doubt about her husband's paternity, sending him into a downward spiral of insecurity and eventual despair.
Critics that gathered for the post-show discussion were quite complimentary of the adaptation and the main actors' performances.
