Hamdan bin Mohammed: Boosting defence is key to national priority

Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, chaired the third meeting of the Defence Council in 2025.

Leadership support and focus on innovation

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan praised the continuous support of President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and emphasized the leadership’s commitment to developing national talent. Investments in human resources and leveraging innovation and advanced technology are central to building an integrated defence system.

National priority: Defence capability development

Sheikh Hamdan asserted that developing the UAE’s integrated defence capabilities is a national priority. This reflects the leadership’s resolve to maintain an advanced defence system that protects national achievements and upholds security and stability. He stressed investing in people, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and technology to ensure readiness for all challenges.

Enhancing operational preparedness

The Defence Council reiterated its commitment to advancing programmes and projects aimed at boosting operational preparedness and incorporating cutting‑edge innovations. Support for the armed forces remains a cornerstone, with a goal for them to remain a global model of efficiency and adaptability.

Review of defence programmes and projects

The meeting also reviewed the progress of various programmes and projects focused on strengthening defence capabilities and modernising the defence sector across the board.

Attendance of key defence leaders

Present at the meeting were Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Fadhel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defence Affairs; Lieutenant General Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces; Major General Michael Hindmarsh, Adviser and President of Zayed Military University; and other senior officers and Ministry of Defence officials.
