Sharjah 24 – WAM: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has concluded its 2025 "Heat Stress Protection Campaign", which ran from June 15 to September 15. Conducted in cooperation with partners from the public and private sectors, the campaign achieved an impressive 99% compliance rate among companies. It aimed to protect workers from the dangers of working under direct sunlight during the intense summer months.

MoHRE confirmed that Monday marked the final day of this year’s campaign. Since June 15, it had been implemented with the support of various sectors to ensure adherence to the midday work ban. Companies were required to halt outdoor and sun-exposed work from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, a measure that was widely respected throughout the campaign period.

The UAE’s humanitarian approach to the labour market

His Excellency Mohsen Ali Al-Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Compliance, stated that this marks the 21st consecutive year of implementing the policy, reflecting the UAE’s continued humanitarian approach toward labor protection. The initiative is part of an integrated system aimed at creating a safe work environment, aligned with best practices and occupational health and safety standards. The campaign seeks to prevent injuries and illnesses caused by high summer temperatures.

Private sector commitment

Al-Nassi also noted the strong commitment from the private sector, which reflects growing awareness of the policy’s positive impact on worker health and safety. Over the years, this has become a firmly established practice among businesses in the UAE, highlighting their dedication to safeguarding workers in line with national health and safety regulations.

Promoting a culture of workers’ rights protection

Her Excellency Dalal Al Shehhi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Labor Protection Sector, praised the collaborative efforts of MoHRE’s partners in both the public and private sectors, along with the broader community. She emphasized that the campaign reflects the UAE’s deep commitment to workers’ welfare, viewing them as essential partners in the country's sustainable development journey.

Al Shehhi added that this campaign reinforces the UAE’s values of social responsibility and ethical labor practices, and highlights its success in transforming worker protection into a deep-rooted cultural norm. This transformation is supported by expanded social protection systems, evolving policies and legislation, and a growing focus on worker happiness and inclusion in national events and celebrations.

10,000 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery workers

One of the key outcomes of this year’s campaign was the provision of over 10,000 air-conditioned and comfortable rest areas for delivery workers across the UAE. These rest points were complemented by the distribution of refreshments and full meals, as well as awareness campaigns on heat exhaustion and nationwide medical check-ups for workers.

Shaded areas and cooling measures required by policy

The "Heat Stress Protection" policy requires companies to provide shaded areas for workers during breaks and, where applicable, while on duty. Employers must also ensure the availability of cooling equipment, adequate drinking water, and hydration supplements such as salts—approved by local authorities. Additionally, the policy mandates first aid provisions to address any incidents of heat-related illness.
