These measures contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the souq and preserving fish resources in the long term.
Yousef Al Zaabi, General Director of Food and Hospitality at SAM, said: “This visit reflects the importance of cooperation and integration between the various entities concerned with the fisheries sector, which contributes to strengthening sustainability and ensuring that markets adhere to the highest regulatory and health standards. At Souq Al Jubail, we are keen to continue our partnership with both government and private entities to support local fishermen, preserve marine resources, and provide safe and sound products that meet the needs of consumers. We also reaffirm our full commitment at Souq Al Jubail to all environmental and health standards and requirements, taking into account fishing seasons, in order to safeguard fisheries and ensure their sustainability, thereby supporting efforts to enhance food security.”
His Excellency Marwan Abdullah Al Zaabi affirmed that the strategy of the MOCCAE, which stems from the directives of the United Arab Emirates, is centred on strengthening the sustainable food security system. This is achieved through continuous work to support and enhance all outlets and vital markets in the country to ensure the availability of local products and their accessibility to consumers, while stressing full compliance with the highest environmental and health standards that safeguard resources and meet the needs of all members of society.
Al Zaabi said: “This visit to Souq Al Jubail highlights the strong commitment and tangible efforts we have witnessed from SAM. The souq stands as a successful model of effective partnership between the relevant authorities, which we regard as a key pillar in achieving our objectives of preserving fisheries and ensuring their sustainability as an essential component of the sustainable food security system in the UAE. The presence of such organised markets represents a genuine guarantee for both consumers and fishermen alike, while supporting the stability of the local market.”
