Sharjah24: The Moroccan national team has qualified for the 2026 World Cup finals after a resounding 5-0 victory over Niger in Rabat during the seventh round of the fifth group matches in the African qualifiers.
With this win, Morocco becomes the first African team to secure a spot in the upcoming World Cup, following their historic achievement in the previous tournament, where they were the first African and Arab team to reach the semifinals.
Morocco capitalised on their opponent's numerical disadvantage after the expulsion of Abdellatif Goumi (26 minutes), scoring five goals through Ismail Sabiri (29 and 38), Ayoub El Kaabi (51), and substitutes Hamza Ikhwan (69) and Azeddine Ounahi (85).
The Moroccan team celebrated their qualification at the newly constructed Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, located 7 km from downtown Rabat. The stadium, which replaced the old one, took about two years to build and has a capacity of 68,000 spectators.
With this victory, Morocco increased its points in Group 5 to 18, leading by 8 points over Tanzania, which drew 1-1 with Congo.
