The event showcased a number of cats and dogs available at the shelter, offering the public the opportunity to adopt them into a safe and well-organized environment that ensures proper healthcare and balanced nutrition. The event also featured guided tours for animal welfare enthusiasts to explore the shelter’s facilities and services, along with specialized sessions providing detailed insights into the health, nutritional, and behavioral care required for the pets after adoption.
Her Excellency Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, emphasised that the adoption initiatives at the Sharjah Cat and Dog Shelter reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to ensure humane treatment of all living beings while instilling values of compassion and kindness.
She stated: "This initiative aims to promote a culture of animal welfare and strengthen community engagement in caring for these creatures. The Sharjah Cat and Dog Shelter continues to play its role as a pioneering humanitarian platform and a leading model at the local and regional levels in providing a safe haven for abandoned animals. The shelter operates within an integrated system that includes comprehensive veterinary care, regular medical checkups, balanced nutrition, and behavioral support to prepare the animals for adoption into families committed to ensuring their ongoing care and well-being.”
Located in the New Sharjah area near Sharjah Airport, the shelter serves as a secure and compassionate refuge for abandoned and stray animals. It provides thorough medical examinations, proper nutrition, and comfortable facilities, including air-conditioned cat rooms and spacious areas for dogs.
The shelter follows a structured adoption process that includes submitting an application form, veterinary consultations to ensure suitability, and verifying the adopting families’ ability to provide proper care. Each adopted animal is provided with a complete medical record and an electronic microchip for identification.
Additionally, the shelter plays a pivotal role in programs dedicated to trap, neuter, and release (TNR) of stray cats, as part of broader environmental efforts to manage their population humanely while contributing to pest control and maintaining ecological balance.
