Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates took part in a major anti-drug operation coordinated by the International Security Alliance (ISA), targeting transnational criminal groups involved in large-scale drug smuggling. The joint operation led to the seizure of 822 tonnes of narcotics and the arrest of 12,564 suspects worldwide, with the total value of the seized drugs estimated at $2.9 billion.

Multi-agency and multi-country cooperation

Conducted over two months by air, sea, and land, this was the second global operation of its kind led by ISA. The UAE joined forces with member states including Bahrain, Spain, Morocco, France, the Netherlands, Slovakia, and Italy. Additional support came from Ameripol countries such as Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as Europol nations like Croatia and Belgium. Jordan, Nepal, and the Maldives also participated.

Strengthening global security collaboration

The operation served not only to dismantle drug trafficking networks but also to strengthen intelligence sharing, refine counter-smuggling tactics, and build lasting partnerships among law enforcement bodies. The collaboration enhanced field coordination and raised levels of joint preparedness, resulting in more efficient mechanisms to intercept cross-border drug flows.

ISA's growing role in global security

Founded in 2017 by the UAE and France, the ISA is a strategic platform that unites member states in addressing common international security challenges. While combating organized crime is a core focus, the alliance also plays a pivotal role in advancing the UAE’s leadership on the global security stage by reinforcing strategic cooperation and shaping international policy.
