Sharjah 24 AFP: Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has recalled defender Antonio Rüdiger to the national team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, while Leroy Sané has been excluded from the squad.

Nagelsmann faces several absences as key players like Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Tim Kleindienst, goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, and defenders Nico Schlotterbeck and Benjamin Henrich will miss the qualifiers. To bolster the squad, he has called up three newcomers: Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nnamdi Collins, Augsburg’s goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, and Mainz’s Paul Knebel.

Sané, who earned 70 caps since 2015, has not been in the starting lineup since his recent transfer from Bayern Munich to Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Rüdiger returns after being sidelined following an incident in May during the Copa del Rey final, where he threw an object at a referee and was verbally abusive. Nagelsmann previously condemned the behavior, warning of serious consequences, but Rüdiger apologized for his actions.

Selected Squad:

  • Goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann, Finn Dahmen, Alexander Nübel
  • Defenders: Robert Andrić, Waldemar Anton, Nnamdi Collins, Robin Koch, Maximilian Mittelstadt, David Raum, Antonio Rüdiger, Jonathan Tah
  • Midfielders: Karim Adeyemi, Pascal Gross, Nadiem Amiri, Paul Knebel, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich, Jimmy Leveling, Angelo Stiller, Florian Wirtz
  • Forwards: Niklas Füllkrug, Nick Voltmeade
