Sharjah 24 – AFP: Arsenal on Thursday announced the signing of Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, taking their summer transfer spending close to $189 million.

Transfer details and contract

The Spain under-21 international joins for an initial fee of around £13 million, with performance-related add-ons. He has signed a five-year contract, with an option for a further year.

Role and versatility

The 21-year-old becomes Arsenal's fifth signing in recent weeks. He is expected to provide defensive cover for William Saliba and Gabriel but is capable of playing anywhere across the back line.

Mosquera joins pre-season tour

Mosquera, who made 41 appearances for Valencia last season, has joined Arsenal for their pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong.

Gabriel and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also signed new contracts, and a long-term extension for teenager Ethan Nwaneri is reportedly nearing completion.

Ongoing transfer targets

Arsenal are still pursuing striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, though no deal is imminent. The potential transfer could be worth up to £65 million.

Arsenal set for season opener

The Gunners, runners-up in the Premier League for the past three seasons, will open their 2025/26 campaign away at Manchester United on August 17.
