Draft law aims to cement occupation
Aboul Gheit stated that the move is part of a broader plan to impose a new reality on the ground, aimed at perpetuating Israeli control and annexing Palestinian territories. He emphasized that these actions are unacceptable under international law.
Legal status of West Bank remains unchanged
He reaffirmed that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is internationally recognized as occupied territory. Any Israeli legislation attempting to change this status holds no legal validity and contradicts established international consensus.
Call for international response
The Arab League chief urged the international community to reject and confront such unlawful and provocative actions. He highlighted the importance of upholding United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 2334 as the basis for ending the occupation.
Warning against escalation
Aboul Gheit warned that if extremist settler and religious groups within Israel are not restrained, the region could be dragged into dangerous religious conflicts, threatening regional stability and peace.
