Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, received His Excellency Taryam Matar Taryam, President of the UAE Chess Federation, at the Emiri Court.

Promoting chess in UAE schools

During the meeting, His Highness was briefed on a national project to promote chess in schools, including its implementation stages and desired outcomes. He also reviewed the Federation's efforts to adopt international best practices and establish partnership agreements aimed at enhancing educational curricula, particularly in teacher training and student development.

Supporting mind sports and national talent development

The Crown Prince emphasized the importance of mind sports—especially chess—for developing critical thinking and analytical skills. He called for alignment with national visions to nurture future champions capable of representing the UAE on regional and international platforms.

Fujairah Ruler's vision for cultural and sports advancement

His Highness highlighted the commitment of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to support cultural and sporting initiatives. These efforts aim to cultivate a creative and distinguished generation, enhancing the UAE’s global competitiveness and leadership.

Focus on educational programmes and teacher qualification

His Excellency Taryam Matar Taryam detailed the Federation's plans to qualify teachers through specialized courses, such as the “Chess Teacher Course” and the “Chess Referee Course.” These are designed to improve instructional quality and foster a chess culture in schools.

His Highness praised the Federation’s initiatives and team efforts, stressing the importance of discovering young talent and expanding chess in schools as a tool for mental development and skill enhancement.

In response, His Excellency Taryam Matar Taryam expressed his gratitude to His Highness for his continuous support of the sports sector. He reaffirmed the Federation’s dedication to building institutional partnerships and promoting excellence in chess both locally and internationally.
