His Highness made the remarks while attending a dialogue session at Al Rumailah Palace as part of the “Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi Majlis”, titled “How Can Teachers Turn Creativity into Learning Opportunities?”, delivered by Indian teacher and artist Rouble Nagi, winner of the 2026 Global Teacher Prize, presented by the Varkey Foundation in cooperation with UNESCO.
His Highness highlighted the interest of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, in supporting leading initiatives and experiences in education, culture and creativity, and encouraging innovative practices that contribute to developing young people’s capabilities and broadening their horizons of knowledge and learning, enhancing Fujairah’s position and leadership in supporting creativity and innovation.
The session explored various aspects of Rouble Nagi’s experience in using art as a tool for learning and change. She also shared her more than 20-year journey in making education accessible to children in underserved communities and transforming walls and neglected spaces into “living walls for learning” through interactive murals that teach literacy, numeracy, science, health and the environment.
The session also highlighted the role of this experience in transforming neighbourhoods into open-air classrooms, using everyday spaces as vibrant environments for learning and discovery, and involving students and the community in the educational process in ways that foster curiosity and create learning experiences beyond the confines of books and classrooms.
The session discussed Rouble Nagi’s experience in establishing more than 800 educational centres across more than 100 underserved villages and areas in India, as well as training more than 600 teachers and volunteers. Her initiatives helped return more than one million children to formal education, while her programmes succeeded in reducing school dropout rates by more than 50%.
Dr Ali bin Naya Al Taniji, Director of the Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi Majlis, said the session was organised under the directives of the Crown Prince of Fujairah and as part of the council’s commitment to discussing various educational and cultural topics that contribute to raising awareness of the importance of creativity in education and highlighting inspiring experiences in knowledge, art and culture by hosting a select group of specialists and creatives.
The session was attended by Dr Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah; Mohammed Al Qasim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education; and a number of academics, intellectuals, teachers, those interested in educational and cultural affairs, and officials from the Emirate of Fujairah.
