Sharjah24: Department of Islamic Affairs has announced the reopening of the "Imam Nawawi" Mosque in Al-Munakh area of Sharjah City after completing its maintenance and renovation. This initiative reflects the department's mission to preserve mosques in their finest condition and enhance their aesthetic and spiritual aspects in line with their significance. This continues the approach of the Emirate of Sharjah under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in nurturing and developing mosques to maintain Islamic identity.

Historical background

The mosque was originally built in 1980 on a total land area of 5,393 square meters, accommodating 580 worshippers at the time. It has now been expanded to hold 1,000 worshippers.

Renovation details

The renovation included comprehensive maintenance, cladding work, painting, and decorative lighting, alongside the upkeep of all facilities and annexes, adhering to the highest standards and specifications.

Architectural design

The new architectural design of the Imam Nawawi Mosque embodies the spirit of Islamic authenticity with modern touches that enhance both functionality and aesthetics. It is characterized by towering minarets, multiple domes, and intricate decorative details, transforming it into an artistic masterpiece that attracts worshippers and visitors, providing them with a spiritual and faith-filled atmosphere.

 

Engineering studies

The department conducted precise engineering studies to ensure the building's sustainability and its capacity to accommodate large numbers of worshippers. High-quality building materials that consider the region's climatic conditions were used during the renovation while preserving Islamic design elements. The carefully distributed lighting highlights the beauty of the architectural features, accentuating the arches, domes, and minarets, making the mosque shine in the skyline and stand out in the city.

Continuous support

The department appreciates the ongoing support and limitless interest of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi in building and caring for mosques across the emirate. This ambitious vision and continuous support from the Ruler of Sharjah for these projects demonstrate a comprehensive approach aimed at building a balanced community that blends authenticity and innovation, affirming Sharjah's status as a cultural and religious beacon.
