Sharjah 24: Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid, part of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, continues to uphold its mission of purposeful media through outstanding programming that promotes awareness of Emirati and Gulf societal values. In this spirit, the channel presents “Yaqul Al-Faheem”, a programme that guides viewers on a captivating journey through traditional proverbs—seen as mirrors of wisdom and rich repositories of customs and traditions. These episodes are filled with reflections on daily life, human experiences, and the nuances of relationships.

Airing every Thursday at 5:00 PM, the programme is presented by Dr. Salem Zayed Al Tunaiji and features guest appearances by Dr. Rashid Ahmed Al Mazrouei. Together, they offer a compelling cultural and intellectual experience that reconnects audiences with their oral heritage.

Exploring meaning behind the words

Behind each familiar saying or widely used proverb lies a story—and discovering these stories deepens understanding. Many of these expressions contain words no longer common in modern language, so the programme takes time to explain their vocabulary and meanings clearly, making them accessible to all viewers.

These proverbs, with their memorable and often poetic forms, serve as powerful entry points into the broader cultural context. They reflect shared human experiences and act as vital conduits for transmitting heritage and traditional values to younger generations, nurturing a strong sense of identity and belonging.

A vision rooted in cultural preservation

Saeed Rashid bin Fadhel Al Ketbi, Director of Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid, stated: "As part of our commitment to preserving and sharing our cultural legacy, we have developed a suite of programmes that are both educational and enjoyable. ‘Yaqul Al-Faheem’ highlights Emirati proverbs as essential elements of our intangible heritage, deserving of preservation and exploration."

He further added: "This programme is central to fulfilling the vision of His Highness Sheikh Drز Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who established Al Wusta Channel from Al Dhaid to document the oral traditions passed down through generations. The aim is to ensure this cultural wealth is preserved, widely available to the public, and serves as a bridge between today’s youth and their rich heritage."
