The UAE’s progress is evident in every corner of the country, where transformative projects have reached even the most remote regions. These achievements highlight the enduring cooperation between leaders and citizens, a consistent approach that has withstood time and challenges.
As one of Sharjah’s remote and mountainous areas, Wadi Al Helo continues to reflect the UAE’s commitment to balanced development. It serves as a powerful representation of the country’s vision to uplift every region, ensuring that no community is left behind on the path to modern growth and national advancement.
The spirit of the “Year of Community” initiative is clearly felt by anyone visiting Wadi Al Helo, where the values of connection, unity, and mutual support have long been part of the region’s identity. The initiative builds upon these traditions, strengthening a culture of togetherness and embedding it as a lasting value in the hearts and minds of residents.
Khamis bin Saeed Al Mazrouei, Governor of Wadi Al Helo, noted the strong public enthusiasm and engagement with annual community initiatives. He pointed out that such efforts play an essential role in reinforcing social values and deeply rooted human principles, especially among younger generations across the community.
Al Mazrouei also highlighted that the UAE’s adoption of the “Year of Community” initiative, launched by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, under the slogan “Hand in Hand”, reflects the leadership’s commitment to building a united and prosperous society. The initiative supports a vision of long-term stability and growth that continues to guide the country’s development journey.
The Governor of Wadi Al Helo emphasised that the region has a longstanding reputation for the solidarity and cooperation among its residents at the local level. The formation of the Union significantly bolstered this spirit of unity, marking a transition into a more structured phase of collaboration between the leadership and the populace. The early days of the UAE were distinctly characterized by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who actively engaged with citizens throughout all regions. He conducted personal visits to different regions to evaluate community needs and ensure they are met.
Al Mazrouei emphasised that the well-being and comfort of the Emirati citizen were consistently a top priority for the late Sheikh Zayed, even amidst his numerous responsibilities in nation-building and leadership. Under the leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the same care and commitment are being upheld today. Leadership is dedicated to improving the quality of life and fostering citizen happiness through various developmental programs and initiatives aimed at achieving these objectives.
The Governor of Wadi Al Helo highlighted the remarkable transformation the region has witnessed, calling for a comparison between its condition before 1971 and the advancements it enjoys today. He pointed out that the founding of the UAE and the Union in the early 1970s marked a major turning point in the development of Wadi Al Helo. He also praised the ongoing dedication of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who regularly visits the area to stay informed about the needs of its residents and ensure they are addressed.
Al Mazrouei noted that the idea of tunnels piercing through mountains to link the country’s cities was once beyond imagination. Today, it stands as a reality made possible by the vision and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose commitment to development has reached even the most remote areas. He added that His Highness always ensures to bring officials along during his visits to engage directly with citizens, reflecting a deep commitment to unity and community connection at the highest levels.
Al Mazrouei stressed that the official spirit of unity and social cohesion present in the region since 1971 has been the driving force behind its ongoing development journey. This progress continues to carve its path through even the most challenging conditions, fueled by determination and unwavering effort. He noted that this unity has played a leading role in all achievements, supported by overwhelming public solidarity and deep-rooted bonds of loyalty between the leadership and the people.
Al Mazrouei highlighted the transformation in living conditions in Wadi Al Helo following the establishment of the Union. Residents moved from mud and stone homes to modern housing equipped with full services. Roads, both internal and external—were paved, and essential utilities like water and electricity reached every home, even those situated atop mountain peaks. He described this as a true embodiment of the partnership and solidarity between the leadership and the people.
He concluded by stating that the community’s strength in facing hardships was rooted in their unity and cooperation. He added that what enabled them to move toward a promising future was a historic leadership distinguished by a unique governing approach and generous support that continues to reinforce national progress, regardless of changing conditions and rising challenges.
