Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah (UOS), the College of Graduate Studies recently hosted an open forum to introduce its latest academic programmes and to strengthen ties with the local community. The event, inaugurated by Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, was attended by Dr. Amina Al-Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Prof. Raafat Al-Awadhi, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, along with a host of academic and administrative leaders, deans, department heads, and representatives from community partners.

Drew a large and engaged audience of current and prospective graduate students

The gathering drew a large and engaged audience of current and prospective graduate students, as well as researchers considering enrolment in the coming fall semester. The centerpiece of the event was an orientation session, where the college showcased its extensive portfolio of 84 graduate programmes spanning postgraduate diplomas, master’s, and doctoral degrees across a diverse spectrum of academic and professional disciplines. These programmes, including 23 doctoral, 58 master’s, and three postgraduate diploma programmes, have been meticulously crafted to align with the evolving needs of the local and regional labor markets.

In his remarks, Prof. Al-Awadhi underscored the vital importance of such forums, which bring together all stakeholders in the research ecosystem and foster an environment ripe for innovation and creativity. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to delivering world-class graduate education, led by distinguished faculty members with credentials from leading global institutions. The university, he noted, boasts cutting-edge research infrastructure, including state-of-the-art laboratories, modern libraries, and access to premier scientific databases all of which empower students to pursue ambitious research agendas and hone their scholarly abilities.

Announced launch of 13 new programmes

Looking ahead to the fall semester, Prof. Al-Awadhi announced the launch of 13 new programmes, marking a significant expansion of the university’s academic activities. Among the new doctoral offerings are degrees in Heritage Conservation Science and Technology, Physiotherapy, Public Health, Health Professions Education, and Dental Sciences. The master’s portfolio will be enriched with programmes in Medical Imaging and Diagnostics, Public Health, Media Entrepreneurship and Digital Innovation, Pediatric Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Practice, Robotics and Control Systems, and Public Policy.

The event was marked by lively student participation, with attendees expressing appreciation for the university’s dedication to cultivating a stimulating academic and research environment. Many praised the opportunity for direct dialogue with university administrators, faculty, and community partners, as well as the comprehensive information provided on the university’s services and support structures. Students highlighted the clarity and accessibility of the guidance offered, particularly regarding the new programmes that set the University of Sharjah apart in the region.

This open forum was the result of coordinated efforts among several university departments, including Academic Marketing and Student Recruitment, Admissions and Registration, Finance, and the Office of Community Relations for Research. Dedicated help desks were set up to address students’ queries about admission requirements, registration procedures, scholarships, and opportunities for research collaboration and practical training with community organisations.
