Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Poetry House hosted a rich and inspiring poetry evening on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, as part of its regular Tuesday Forum series. The event continues the institution’s tradition of spotlighting distinguished Arab poets and offering them a platform to express their creativity.

Celebrating the art of recitation

This particular evening coincided with the ongoing Poetry and Prosody Workshop, which the Poetry House regularly organises to support emerging talents and deepen public engagement with poetic forms. The current edition focuses on the art of poetic delivery and performance, led by Egyptian theatre artist Khaled Abdel Salam, Deputy Director of Egypt’s National Theatre. The workshop highlights the crucial role of recitation in bridging poetry and theatre, reviving the historical connection between poets and their audiences.

A night of poetic voices from the Arab world

The evening featured Saudi poet Ali Ahmed Balbeed, Syrian poet Hamza Al-Yousef, and Omani poet Dr. Montathar Al-Mousawi. The event was presented by Sudanese poet Mohammed Al-Muayyad Majzoub and attended by Poetry House Director Mohammed Abdullah Al-Buraiki, alongside an enthusiastic audience that included fellow poets, critics, academics, and workshop participants.

The evening opened with remarks by Majzoub, who expressed deep appreciation for His Highness Sheikh Dr, Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continued support of culture and poetry. He also praised the Department of Culture and the Poetry House for their dedication to enriching the literary scene.

At the conclusion of the evening, Director Al-Buraiki honoured the participating poets and the evening’s presenter in recognition of their contributions to the cultural life of Sharjah.
