Sharjah 24 – AFP: At least 18 people were killed and dozens injured after tornadoes swept through the central United States, officials reported on Saturday. Local news footage showed significant destruction, with roofs torn off homes and large trucks overturned. Forecasters warned of more tornadoes expected over the weekend.

Missouri's deadly impact

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed 11 "storm-related fatalities," stating that local authorities were working "tirelessly" to assist victims and assess the damage. Downed trees, power lines, and widespread destruction were reported in both residential and commercial areas. Six fatalities were recorded in Missouri’s Wayne County, three in Ozark County, and one each in Butler and Jefferson counties.

Fatalities in Texas and Arkansas

In Texas, local authorities reported that four people died in vehicle accidents linked to dust storms and fires, which reduced visibility on the roads. In Arkansas, three people were killed, and 29 were injured as the storm moved through the state.

Tornado warnings continue

More tornadoes are forecast for Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee as the storm system continues to move across the region.
