Sharjah 24 – AFP: Voting closed on Sunday in the race to lead Canada's Liberal Party, with Mark Carney, a former central banker and political novice, favored to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. As Canada faces growing tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Carney, who previously served as the governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, is the front-runner for the Liberal leadership.

Main contenders in the leadership race

Carney has secured numerous endorsements, including from much of Trudeau's cabinet and over half of the Liberal members of parliament.
