Sharjah 24: Suhaila Al Balooshi, Head of the Shooting and Strength Games Department at Sharjah Women's Sports Club, affiliated with the Sharjah Women's Sports Foundation, announced the commencement of the fourth edition of the Amateur Shooting Challenge. The event drew 100 participants from various age groups and ethnicities. The competition was held at the club's facilities over two days, with March 8th dedicated to open training and March 9th to the duet category competition.

Promoting sports participation and talent development

The primary goal of the tournament is to increase participation in sports and community activities while fostering the development of promising talent. Al Balooshi emphasized that the event coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, a time rich in sports and community events, providing the club an opportunity to raise awareness about shooting sports among women. The challenge also aimed to attract Emirati participants aged 12 to 16, encouraging them to join local teams and represent the UAE in national and international competitions.

Success stories from previous editions

Al Balooshi shared that many previous Amateur Shooting Challenge participants had seen significant success. A notable example is Reem Al Ketbi, a champion in the junior category, who has won multiple medals, including a silver in the Arab Championship and a bronze at the Olympic Hope Championship in Slovakia. This success highlights the tournament's ability to discover and nurture young talent.

Increasing popularity of the event

Al Balooshi also noted the increasing number of participants in each edition of the championship, not only across different age groups but also from diverse nationalities. This growing participation indicates a heightened public awareness of the sport's value and a strong dedication to its continued practice.
