Sharjah 24 – WAM: Saqr Ghabash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), affirmed that the Palestinian Cause has been a crucial guiding principle in the foreign policy of the UAE since its founding in 1971.

UAE's strong support for Palestinian rights

Ghabash noted that the UAE has consistently confronted every attempt to deny Palestinians their rights, highlighting the UAE's significant humanitarian aid to Gaza, exceeding 40% of total international assistance. This is a duty the UAE has embraced with conviction, aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinians and supporting their resilience.

Renewed commitment to Palestinian security and peace

Ghabash emphasised that, due to the current developments surrounding Palestine, the UAE has reaffirmed its firm stance in supporting the Palestinian people's right to live in safety and security, in pursuit of peace and prosperity within an independent state. He referred to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's recent statement rejecting the forcible displacement of Gaza's residents and linking Gaza's reconstruction to a two-state solution for lasting peace.

Criticising forced displacement proposals

In his speech, Ghabash expressed sorrow over the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, which has led to severe human and material losses. He condemned proposals that seek to resolve the Palestinian issue through reconstruction or resettlement, calling them unjust attempts to displace Palestinians from their land.

UAE’s role at the United Nations

Ghabash also pointed out that the UAE, as the head of the Arab Group at the United Nations, submitted a resolution affirming Palestine's eligibility for full UN membership, a historic step supported by 143 countries. He reiterated the UAE's support for the Hashemite custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites and its rejection of any efforts to displace Gaza or West Bank residents, while praising Saudi Arabia’s position on the two-state solution.
