Organised under the umbrella of the "Emirati Goldsmiths Platform,” an initiative of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the exhibition offers a unique insight into the history of pearl extraction, its varieties, and its deep-rooted connection to the jewellery industry in the UAE over nearly six centuries.
The exhibition, held in collaboration with "Suwaidi Pearls," showcased a stunning array of rare natural pearls from Sharjah’s seas, including pearls over 100 years old. The display also featured silver and golden pearls in various shapes and sizes, known for their exceptional quality.
This year’s edition featured a competition for the "Best Natural Pearl Jewellery Set Design," where Emirati designers crafted jewellery sets using premium Emirati pearls. Maisoon Al Jarwan and Haifa Al Nahdi claimed awards in the G1 and Sangabasi Pearl categories.
His Excellency Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, emphasized the Sharjah Pearls Exhibition’s role in reinforcing Sharjah’s status as a hub for the jewellery industry, celebrating the UAE’s rich legacy in pearl diving and trade.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, highlighted the exhibition’s unique blend of heritage and modernity, which demonstrates a commitment to preserving the UAE’s pearl heritage while highlighting advancements in the jewellery sector.
Mona Al Suwaidi, Director of the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, noted the event’s role in introducing younger generations to the legacy of pearls, a cornerstone of the UAE’s economic and cultural heritage, while emphasizing Sharjah’s historical role as a premier hub for pearl diving.
Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi, Founder of Suwaidi Pearls, emphasized the exhibition’s role in preserving the UAE’s rich pearl heritage and passing it on to future generations, with an emphasis on Sharjah’s 560-year history of pearl extraction.
In addition to showcasing natural pearls, the exhibition featured heritage and cultural activities, highlighting the pearling process and traditional tools. A panel discussion titled "The UAE: The Coast of Pearls Through the Ages" explored the significance of pearl trading and fishing in shaping Emirati identity.
