Held on Umm Suqeim Street in Jumeirah, this year’s edition saw over 17,000 runners from various nationalities and age groups compete alongside elite international athletes. The race continues to attract widespread participation, showcasing the city’s commitment to promoting sports.
In the men’s race, Ethiopian debutant Bute Gemechu claimed victory with a time of 2:04:50, edging out fellow countryman Berehanu Tsegu (2:05:14) and Shifera Tamru (2:05:28). Gemechu’s dominant performance, breaking away from the pack after the 35 km mark, marked the fifth consecutive year a debutant won the men’s race.
The women’s race was also a sweep by Ethiopian runners, with Bedatu Hirpa securing the top spot at 2:18:27, surpassing Dera Dida, who finished just five seconds behind. Tigist Girma secured third place with a time of 2:20:47.
Both male and female winners were awarded $80,000, with second and third place finishers receiving $40,000 and $20,000, respectively. Gemechu and Hirpa were delighted with their achievements and spoke about future aspirations, including the 2025 Boston Marathon.
Morocco’s Yassir Ech Chaachoui won the men’s 10 km race with a time of 28:20, while Ethiopia’s Gemene Tunku clinched the women’s 10 km title at 31:03, edging out her compatriot Chaltu Diriba.
Both Gemechu and Hirpa expressed their excitement for future competitions, including a focus on the Boston Marathon. Hirpa, in particular, credited her coach for helping her secure victory in Dubai.
The 2025 Dubai Marathon was supported by various partners, including the Dubai Sports Council, adidas, and multiple other sponsors, ensuring the success of this globally recognised event.
