Sharjah24: Nine passengers among 83 individuals of Asian and Arab nationalities died after a labor transport bus overturned in Khorfakkan on Sunday evening due to brake failure.
Specialized teams from the Sharjah Police (SP) , in coordination with relevant authorities, quickly arrived at the accident site, which helped rescue 73 passengers and provide first aid to the injured, who were then transferred to hospitals for necessary medical care.

Brigadier Dr. Ali Al Khy Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, stated that the operations room of the Sharjah Police received a report on Sunday evening about a bus carrying workers overturning at Wadi Wishi Square, located at the entrance to Khorfakkan. Immediately, all specialised police teams, civil defense units, and national ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene, where fatalities and injuries were confirmed.

He noted that a state of readiness was immediately raised, and all relevant agencies began taking urgent measures to rescue the injured and provide the necessary first aid for their various injuries, ranging from severe to moderate and minor. They were then transported to hospitals for comprehensive healthcare.

The Director of the Eastern Region Police Department explained that preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure in the bus was the primary cause of the accident, which led the driver to lose control and the bus to overturn at the right exit of the Khorfakkan entrance.

The Sharjah Police General Command urges road users to adhere to traffic laws and regulations and to follow safety standards, emphasising the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, staying focused on the road, and adhering to speed limits in tunnels, curves, and intersections.
