During the visit, organised to sign a cooperation agreement between Ras Al Khaimah and Guangdong, China’s most populous province, Sheikh Saud was invited to experience the historical Yong Qing Fang Street and then enjoy a traditional Canton opera, which Guangdong is renowned for.
Sheikh Saud said. “To build strong, long-term partnerships, it is essential to understand and respect the culture and traditions of the people we engage with. A truly successful partnership goes beyond transactions – it is rooted in meaningful connections, mutual respect and a deep appreciation for each other’s heritage. By embracing cultural diversity, we unlock the potential for collaboration, innovation and long-term growth.”
Situated in the Liwan District of Guangzhou, the buildings and gardens of Yong Qing Fang Street have a distinct Lingnan architectural style that is associated with China’s southern provinces. The street is home to numerous historically significant buildings with pagoda roofs and is a haven for tea houses and book stores.
The Canton Opera offered a flavour of traditional Guangzhou culture and music, in the heart of the city’s vibrant artistic scene.
With a population of over 126 million people, Guangdong has the largest economy of any province in China, with a GDP of US$1.9 trillion (AED 6.98 trillion) in 2023. It is a major manufacturing hub, with electronics, automotive, textiles, pharmaceuticals, high-tech industries, finance and real estate making up some of the key sectors.
