Sharjah24: The Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre has announced the launch of the “Scientific Degree” project, which will showcase the academic qualifications earned by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, from esteemed educational institutions around the world. This initiative will unfold over the course of a year, beginning in November 2024, during which a selection of His Highness's academic degrees will be featured.
The project took us back to 1985, when His Highness earned a PhD in Philosophy with a focus on History from the University of Exeter in Britain. His dissertation, titled "The Myth of Arab Piracy in the Arabian Gulf from 1797 to 1820," was awarded with distinction.

In connection with His Highness’s academic partnership with the university, he hosted members of the University of Exeter Alumni Association on May 15, 2007. Professor Steve Smith, the Chancellor of the University of Exeter, commended His Highness for his significant contributions to scientific research in the Gulf region. His efforts have not only corrected and clarified numerous historical inaccuracies but have also opened up new avenues for knowledge in this important area.

During a celebration held by the university, the chancellor commended the generosity of His Highness towards students and various academic, educational, and research institutions. The event took place at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre, under the distinguished patronage and presence of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, as well as graduates who are now working and living in the Arabian Gulf region. It was during this ceremony that His Highness was officially appointed as a founding member of the Board of Supporters for the University of Exeter.

In 2012, His Highness visited the University of Exeter in the UK, where he had the honor of meeting the late Queen Elizabeth during the inauguration of the university's new main building for the Student Forum.

The “Scientific Degree” project builds upon the initiatives of the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre, aiming to highlight various aspects of the scientific, cognitive, and intellectual achievements of His Highness. Previously, the centre introduced the “Story of an Award” initiative, which ran for an entire year to showcase the numerous prestigious medals and recognition awards received by His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah.
