Sharjah 24 – WAM: His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, attended the recent Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed lecture titled "Wellness in the Future: A Holistic Approach to Healthcare" at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Presented by Lucien Engelen, a healthcare innovation expert, the lecture discussed the potential to reduce pressure on healthcare systems while boosting economic returns. Engelen emphasized the importance of human interaction in healthcare, noting its decline due to fewer professionals entering the field. He described the current system as facing a "plumber’s problem," where action is only taken when issues arise, leading to increased strain.

He highlighted that traditional healthcare accounts for just 6% of health determinants but consumes 90% of spending, advocating for a focus on enhancing overall health rather than just expanding healthcare services. Engelen also explored how technology and AI can enable personalized healthcare through innovations like self-measurement kiosks and digital pharmacists.
