Sharjah24: In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to enhance the proliferation of green spaces and execute agricultural initiatives, Sharjah Municipality has initiated two significant projects aimed at facilitating the provision of irrigation water for green spaces. This initiative aligns with the municipality's commitment to implementing highly efficient infrastructure projects, particularly the establishment of treated water pumping stations, which play a pivotal role in delivering irrigation water to existing and potential cultivation areas as outlined in the annual agricultural plans.
Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, the Director General of Sharjah Municipality, along with the municipality's directors and officials from government departments and collaborating agencies, were present at the inauguration of the two projects to oversee their implementation.
Al Tunaiji has stated that the municipality is actively engaged in the implementation of significant infrastructure projects, particularly the construction of irrigation water pumping stations. These projects run in tandem with agricultural initiatives carried out year-round, aiming to establish a consistent and sustainable irrigation source that will bolster the success of green spaces and the broader agricultural project. This aligns with the ongoing comprehensive development in the emirate and the municipality's commitment to identifying sustainable solutions to enhance and fulfill the irrigation needs of agricultural projects. The treated irrigation water for irrigating green spaces necessitates infrastructure rehabilitation to ensure optimal water usage.
The timely completion of the project was made possible through the commendable efforts of various government departments and ministries. Their unwavering support and facilitation of necessary permits greatly assisted the work team. The collaborative partnership between the General Directorate of the Amiri Guard, the General Command of Sharjah Police, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, the Sharjah National Oil Corporation, and the Planning and Survey Department significantly contributed to the overall completion rate of the project.
Eng. Khalifa bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, the Director of Technical Services at Sharjah City Municipality, affirmed the successful completion of two projects by the municipality's technical team. The projects were executed with high efficiency, adhering to the best standards and within a remarkable timeframe of no more than 5 months. During this period, the team accomplished the required tasks at a lower cost than anticipated.
The first project involved enhancing the capacity of the Al Qarain station for pumping irrigation water from 30,000 cubic meters per day to 100,000 cubic meters per day. This enhancement aims to meet the demands of developing urban areas and improve the water supply to various crucial projects.
Al Suwaidi articulated that the second project entailed the establishment of a new pumping station in the Al-Budaiya area with a daily capacity of 36,000 cubic meters, corresponding to 9.5 million gallons of treated irrigation water. Additionally, the municipal technical team extended a new pipeline from the Al-Budaiya station to the Al-Musnad area, covering a distance of 22.5 km, marking a significant advancement in the provision of irrigation water within infrastructure projects. The station comprises a storage unit with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters (equivalent to 520,000 gallons) and is equipped with high-efficiency pumps.
Eng. Jaafar Ali Jaafar, the Director of the Sanitation Department, emphasized the significance of the projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Al Qarain irrigation water pumping station and the Al-Badi’ station. These projects, completed within a remarkably short timeframe, play a crucial role in supplying treated irrigation water to support forthcoming agricultural initiatives and in advancing sustainable development. Furthermore, they are instrumental in offering innovative solutions to bolster the agricultural sector.
During the ceremony, Sharjah Municipality honored the strategic partners, as well as a number of cooperating private companies.
