Japan's speedy, spotless Shinkansen bullet trains turn 60

September 30, 2024 / 9:34 AM
Sharjah24 – AFP: Japan's iconic Shinkansen bullet trains turn 60 on October 1. High-speed Shinkansen trains began running between Tokyo and Osaka in 1964, heralding a new era for rail travel as Japan grew into an economic superpower after its World War II defeat.
The service remains integral to the nation's economy and way of life -- so keeping it dazzlingly clean, punctual and accident-free is a serious job.

"We take great care in making sure that safety always comes first. No matter what our past achievements have been," says Daisuke Kumajima, a public relations officer of rail operator JR Central.
