Sharjah 24 – WAM: The UAE participated in the ninth BRICS Ministers of Culture Meeting in St. Petersburg, where the Joint Declaration of the BRICS Ministers of Culture was adopted.
Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, leading the UAE delegation, underscored the significance of multilateralism and collaboration in addressing global challenges. He stressed the UAE’s commitment to promoting culture as a means of achieving sustainable development and fostering inclusivity.

Sheikh Salem emphasised that culture is essential for socioeconomic growth and climate action. He noted that cultural events such as festivals and exhibitions are crucial for celebrating diversity, strengthening social ties, and driving creative industries.

He also called for better metrics to measure the economic impact of culture and creative industries, which play a vital role in innovation, job creation, and the global export of national values.

The UAE has previously co-led a UNESCO resolution to protect the cultural and creative sectors and develop international indicators for their progress. Sheikh Salem's delegation, including senior Ministry of Culture officials, engaged with counterparts from other BRICS nations to discuss the cultural agenda and draft declaration.

In addition to the BRICS meeting, the UAE delegation attended the tenth St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum, featuring a business program at the Hermitage, a gala concert, and performances, including a ballet by the B. Eifman Theatre. Emirati mezzo-soprano Fatima Al Hashmi also performed at the event.
