September 05, 2024 / 4:43 PM
Sharjah24: The Social Services Department in Sharjah is conducting a series of awareness workshops targeting educational and administrative staff in schools as part of the Community Prevention Programme in schools. This programme is being implemented in coordination with Emirates Schools Establishment and Sharjah Police.
The programme is applied across schools in the Emirate of Sharjah with the aim of enhancing the abilities of school system members to identify and monitor early signs and effects of child abuse or violence. The objective of the programme is to strengthen the effectiveness of child protection partners by empowering educational staff to observe and detect early signs of abuse, and to work in coordination with school-based child protection units to create an effective partnership in protecting children.

Dr. Jassem Al Hammadi, Director of the Knowledge Department, emphasised that the department is focused on enhancing child protection and ensuring their proper upbringing, noting that the school environment plays a significant role in this area.

Al Hammadi mentioned that the programme is being implemented gradually in Sharjah schools in collaboration with partners such as the Emirates Schools Establishment and Sharjah Police. The programme also aims to enhance cooperation between the family and the school to create a broader and more coordinated social protection network.

Additionally, the programme focuses on early detection mechanisms for child abuse or violence and introduces the procedures for protecting children at risk through the Child Helpline, a free service available 24/7 through the number 800700. The department is committed to making every possible effort to ensure a safe and supportive educational environment for students as the new academic year begins.
