Organised under the patronage of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Honourary President of the Breastfeeding Friends Society, the celebration took place in different areas in the UAE.
To mark this occasion, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi shared a video message highlighting the importance of supporting mothers and enabling them to exercise their right to breastfeed their children, noting that this year’s theme “Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all” reflects the need to support every mother to achieve this goal.
The activities included educational lectures for mothers in hospitals and clinics in the country and virtual awareness sessions about the benefits of breastfeeding for the mother and the child, delivered by health specialists and consultants, including “Breastfeeding: Promoting Health and Wellness” and “Nutrition Tips for Breastfeeding Mothers”, as well as nutrition counselling for pregnant and lactating mothers.
A dedicated event has been organised to educate mothers of children with disabilities about the benefits of breastfeeding in promoting their children’s healthy development. The celebration saw the announcement of exclusive discounts on breastfeeding essentials as well as the celebration of the Twins Day.
The activities included the distribution of awareness flyers on how breastfeeding mothers an balance their work and family responsibilities as well as educational initiatives that improved the awareness of 696 mothers and other individuals.
Eng. Khawla Al Noman, Head of the Breastfeeding Friends Society said: “We are keen to participate every year in the celebration of the World Breastfeeding Week to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding. Our participation aligns with the directions of HH Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, to promote sustainable physical and emotional health for mothers and children through community awareness about the importance of breastfeeding in cultivating an environment that values the health and happiness of both mothers and children and protects them against illnesses, therefore, building a society that ensures the mental health of families”.
