Sharjah24: Sharjah Camel Racing Club welcomed members of the Sharjah Summer Sports program from Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club. The attendees were received by His Excellency Matar Ali bin Howaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Sharjah Camel Racing Club. The visit's agenda included a field tour of the Al Dhaid Camel Racing Track and teaching the summer sports participants how to ride camels. Additionally, a workshop titled "Camel Riding and the Beginning of the Race" was organised, presented by His Excellency Matar Ali bin Howaiden. During the workshop, attendees received both theoretical and practical explanations about camels, their gear, and their components. Bin Howaiden also provided a practical demonstration on how to mount camels and prepare them for races, showcasing tools and camel equipment from both the past and present.
Al Ketbi discussed the role of camels in the old UAE society and their importance in the lives of the people at that time. He explained how to handle camels at all stages of their lives and posed questions to the attendees about the workshop's topics. At the end of the workshop, Matar Ali bin Howaiden presented awards and commemorative gifts to the programme participants.
Bin Howaiden emphasised that the interest of the Sharjah Camel Racing Club in heritage, community, educational, and sports programmes stems from its mission to preserve, promote, and introduce the heritage to the younger generations. Al Ketbi noted that he was able to impart experience and knowledge about their heritage to the Sharjah Summer Sports members, helping them understand the historical and social significance of camels, given their great importance in Emirati heritage and their long-standing role as a vital aspect of life in the community.
