Sharjah24: The Sharjah Sports Club (SSC) has recently wrapped up the first-ever school cycling championship, a significant event that focuses only on promoting cycling at the school level.
Al Hamriyah School (second and third cycles) has achieved a remarkable victory, claiming the championship cup and securing the first-place position. Al Majd Model School and Zayed Educational Complex in Al Suyoh tied for second place, with Al Qarayen School coming in third. Abdullah Al Salem School secured fourth place. Zayed Educational Complex in Al Rahmaniya and Al Khalidiya School have achieved an impressive fifth place in the competition.
The championship had a remarkable turnout, with 210 students from seven different schools taking part in the event.
The club hosted the championship with the aim of fulfilling its community role and involving different societal groups, especially schools, which are considered the breeding ground for future athletes. The event also had the goal of discovering and encouraging young athletes to join the club and pursue sports.
The championship was scheduled to align with the conclusion of the academic year and the start of summer activities, a strategic decision made by the Individual Games Department. The department has developed an exclusive programme that offers camps and training sessions for school students who have a passion for sports.
The event was attended by Khalid Issa Al Midfa, Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Club, along with several dignitaries and representatives from the sponsoring companies, who also awarded the winners.
