Sharjah 24: The Rubu Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators presented over 30 creative workshops, engaging more than 1525 children and adolescents aged 6 to 18. These workshops were part of the fifteenth edition of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, hosted by the Sharjah Book Authority at Expo Sharjah from May 1st to May 12th, 2024.
Rubu Qarn’s participation in the festival stemmed from its commitment to inspiring future generations to embrace reading, research, and knowledge-seeking, while nurturing their cultural and creative sensibilities. The aim was to enrich their intellectual capacities across various domains, fostering dialogue, constructive expression, and acceptance of others.
Spanning 12 days, the Foundation's workshops offered a blend of culture, arts, life skills, and entertainment. Highlights included engaging storytelling sessions such as "Like My Mother," "The Dream Factory," and "Hind's Space Mission," followed by diverse artistic workshops inspired by these stories, enabling participants to craft imaginative artworks using various materials.
Participants also learned about the importance of innovation in achieving sustainability through workshops like "Smart Farming." They enjoyed learning Arabic calligraphy in the "Calligraphic Creations" workshop and mastered storytelling skills in an engaging manner through the "Storyteller" workshop, in addition to various interactive games.
Rubu Qarn provided participants with the opportunity to explore the world of theatrical performance and learn some of its skills in the "Puppetry Making" workshop. This workshop encouraged creative expression by creating unique puppets reflecting their imaginative story characters, using different artistic techniques. Participants also learned watercolor painting techniques in the "Ebru Art" workshop, as well as Islamic ornamentation and geometric shapes in the "Islamic Decoration and Colouring" workshop, showcasing our Islamic culture.
Rubu Qarn’s platform included a unique array of creative workshops held in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Council for Contemporary Crafts. These workshops ranged from making bracelets and camel leather bookmarks to learning about Kokedama, a unique Japanese art form, and the technicalities of creating hanging garden displays. Additionally, the "Sound Colouring" workshop equipped participants with narrative storytelling skills and professional recording techniques, enhancing their communication and creativity.
