Sharjah 24: Sharjah Sports Club will launch, on Tuesday, the first edition of the “First Sharjah Club School Cycling Championship”, the first championship of its kind in the Emirate of Sharjah. The championship is dedicated to school students, and is held in the city of Tilal in Al Suyoh suburb.
The tournament comes under the supervision and coordination of the Sharjah Sports Council and the Emirates Schools Establishment, andorganised by Sharjah Sports Club, out of its belief in the importance of school sports.

More than 200 students representing 7 schools are participating in the first tournament. It aims to cultivate competitive sports activity and increase the strategic partnership between the club and schools to raise sports awareness in general and cycling in particular.

Through the tournament, the club aims to discover new talents among the participating students aged 12, 13 and 14 years old, which is the age group that can be built upon in the future and attract students to join the club.

The tournament is held on a points system, where the school with the highest number of points is crowned in the tournament. The tournament consists of 3 races for each grade (sixth, seventh, and eighth), and the distance of each race is 3.3 km, 1.1 km for one session, in addition to allocating a cup for each grade in the races and certificates of appreciation.

On this occasion, Engineer Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Al Hajri, Member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Individual Games Department, said that the aim of organising such tournaments is to activate the agreement between Sharjah Sports Council and the Emirates Schools Establishment, which in turn constituted a qualitative leap in the integration between clubs and schools.

Al Hajri explained that the tournament is an unprecedented step and aims to discover talents, attract players, and give them the full opportunity to discover and develop their abilities by joining clubs.

The head of the individual games pointed out that preparations for the championship began since the formation of the championship team, which visited a number of schools for the purpose of introducing the game of cycling through workshops and lectures in a scientific manner, with the aim of educating the participants and introducing them to the game.

Al Hajri pointed out that choosing the timing of the tournament coincided with the end of the academic year and the beginning of the summer vacation, during which the club prepares to organise sporting events in preparation for the upcoming sporting season.
