Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Classic Cars Club (SCCC) concluded its participation in the ITB Berlin 2024, which was launched from March 5-7, under the umbrella of the Sharjah Pavilion organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.
The club displayed models of old German cars that received remarkable acclaim from the exhibition audience in the Emirate’s pavilion, including the Mercedes-Benz SL190, which is considered a luxury two-door roadster produced from 1955 and 1963, characterised by an elegant design and equipped with a six-cylinder engine.
During its participation in the exhibition, the club displayed 3 creative projects by students of the College of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Sharjah, including a miniature model of a car and designs of cars in virtual reality, which demonstrated the creative capabilities of the youth of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Club officials also held meetings with a group of companies specialised in the classic cars sector. They discussed with them ways to cooperate and benefit from expertise in this field, in addition to introducing the German and European public to the events organised by the club throughout the year.
The most prominent of which is the Sharjah Classic Cars Festival, which brought together more than 300 old cars from various countries and eras, and included shows, competitions, and prizes, and dialogue sessions, exhibitions and entertainment activities, and it is considered one of the most important events in the Emirate to bring together fans of classic cars.
The club’s participation was also an opportunity to promote cultural tourism and the vintage car sector in Sharjah, which is considered a favourite destination for many German and European visitors, who are looking for diversity and heritage, and to learn about what Sharjah offers in terms of events, festivals, and cultural, artistic and historical projects.
Regarding the end of participation, His Excellency Dr. Ali Ahmed Abu Al Zawd, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Classic Cars Club, said: “Our presence in this exhibition represents a major milestone, given Germany’s long-standing position in the automobile industry, past and present, and which we are proud to carry a portion of it, whether by club members or the collections of the Sharjah Classic Cars Museum.”
He added: “We are proud of the German public’s interest in their country to view the Sharjah Classic Cars Club’s exhibits, which is a testimony from experienced people to Sharjah’s leadership in this growing global tourism and commercial sector. In an effort to develop this sector, we are working according to specific programmes and plans in order to establish strategic partnerships in international forums that contribute to marketing the museum and the club, and enriching the cultural and economic life in Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates.”
