At the onset of the meeting, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed praised the efforts of all entities under the Sharjah Media Council and their keenness to cooperate among themselves to improve the media work system and achieve the preset goals, visions and strategies.
During its meeting, the Council discussed a number of topics related to the media sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, and reviewed the reports of government agencies, their most prominent achievements over the previous period, and their future plans.
The council reviewed the results of the performance of the Sharjah Media Council’s strategy in 2023, which included the results of joint indicators with the council’s affiliated institutions, indicating the rates of their achievement and presenting the challenges and recommendations proposed to improve performance and accelerate the achievement of the indicators.
The meeting dealt with a report from Sharjah Media City (Shams), which reviewed the most prominent business developments in the city, the growth of commercial activities and business licenses, and the most prominent services it delivers to provide the ideal environment for doing business in the city. The report also included the outputs of many activities organised by the city, including the second edition of the “Shams Creativity Festival”, and hosting delegations of Korean media agencies.
The council reviewed the report of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, which dealt with the programmatic cycle of the authority’s channels and radio stations, which takes into account all interests and suits various groups of society, in addition to the authority’s efforts in transmitting events at the level of cities and regions of the emirate.
The Council also reviewed the report of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), which dealt with the SGMB’s efforts in media coverage of the news of the Emirate of Sharjah through the smart media platform, where the estimated advertising value amounted to more than 700 million. The report also included the media support programmes that the SGMB provides to various government agencies and major events in the emirate.
The report also included the SGMB’s preparations for organising the eighth edition of the International Photography Festival “Xposure”, which is set to take place from February 28 to March 5, 2024.
Present at the meeting alongside Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi were Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City “Shams”; Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General of the Sharjah Media Council; Rashid Abdullah Al Obad, Director of Sharjah Media City (Shams); Salem Ali Al Ghaithi, Director of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Alia Bu Ghanem Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau; and Hessa Abdullah Al Hammadi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council.
