Sharjah 24: Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at Sharjah Department of Culture, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity (SAAC) - First Edition, announced the winners of the 27th edition, which comes under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs.
The number of winners was 18 male and female contestants from various Arab countries, in the six literary fields of the award, which are: poetry, novel, short story, theatre script, children’s literature, and literary criticism.

This came during a press conference held at the Department of Culture in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department, a large number of intellectuals and writers, and members of SAAC General Secretariat.

Mohammed Al Qaseer referred to SAAC as a cultural milestone thanks to the patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, saying that in 1997, SAAC was launched, based on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the aim of supporting young innovators, and since that time SAAC has had a unique presence.

Al Qaseer added that the award continues to confirm this pioneering presence at the Arab level, whereas over the past years, it has presented more than 480 winners in the award’s six fields, and created a broad and diverse creative environment in many Arab countries, and provided the Arab library with hundreds of literary, intellectual, and critical publications. He maintained that the award also formed an Arab cultural identity in its endeavour toward youth, and a remarkable creative space

He pointed out that a total number of 527 participants from Arab countries such as Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Libya, Mauritania, Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria, in addition to African countries such as Mali, Senegal, Guinea, and Gambia applied for the award.

The Secretary General of the Award congratulated the winners of the 27th edition, saying he was pleased to extend his congratulations to all the winners, wishing them more creativity, and that this edition will be the beginning of the path to other editions.
